Janelle Greer and Heidi Widmer Lead Canadians in Turkey Feb 22nd, 2012

The first set of races are completed at the World Junior and Under-23 Championships in Erzurum, Turkey. It was the Academy skiers Janelle Greer, competing Monday, and Heidi Widmer on Tuesday who succesfully moved onto the heats.

Janelle qualified 26th, on a course with two gradual climbs before it descends back into the finish. In the heats, Janelle finished 28th.

Heidi Widmer posted the 16th fastest qualifying time in the U23's sprint race, finishing 9 seconds behind Hanna Kolb of Germany. Despite a promising start to the day, during her quaterfinal heat Heidi lost her ski after avoiding a crash near the start putting her in 27th.

Emily Nisikawa and Marlis Kromm finished 33rd and 36th.

In the men's race, Graeme Killick nd Jess Cockney didn't move on to the rounds, finising 31st and 39th respectively.

The junior racing resumes tomorrow with Janelle Greer racing 5km.
