Alberta World Cup 2010 to be bullfrogpowered^TM with 100 per cent clean, green electricity

Toronto, January 28, 2010 – While gold, silver and bronze are the colours typically associated with Olympic sport supremacy, the Alberta World Cup cross-country event in Canmore, Alberta, this week will be all green. The event, which is the final international race leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics, has signed on to be bullfrogpowered with 100 per cent clean, renewable electricity.

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power will ensure green electricity is injected onto the regional grid to match the amount of power the event, which runs from February 4 to 7 at the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park, uses. The agreement includes the greening of all active space used during the competition, including set-up and race areas.

As part of its green commitment and effort to reduce its environmental impact, the 2010 Alberta World Cup has also pledged a Zero Waste initiative that includes the recycling of all wires used for television cabling and the printing of marketing materials on recycled paper.

“Alberta World Cup 2010 is the first FIS (International Ski Federation) competition to be bullfrogpowered, and we’re delighted to lead the way for our sport,” said Al Maddox, Chair of the World Cup Organizing Committee. “Given cross-country skiing’s connection to the outdoors, part of being committed to our athletes and the sport is demonstrating a commitment to the environment.”

The greening of this particular event represents a significant milestone for the Canmore community.
