AWCA Hosts Senior Officials Training Seminars Nov 17th, 2008

In the months of October and November, the Alberta World Cup Academy, with financial support from the XC World Cup Society, hosted two related weekend seminars to provide enhanced training for senior XC officials from Alberta and across Canada.

The first of these was "Part 1" of the Level 3 Officials course - conducted by Cross Country Canada and hosted by AWCA. There were a total of twelve participants from Canmore, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, and Saskatoon - who were upgrading their existing Level 2 status towards Level 3. CCC's Event Committee Chair Janet Gates led the workshop, which was coordinated by Blair Dunbar from the Academy.

In mid-November, that same group returned to Canmore to complete their Level 3 classroom training, and were joined by existing Level 3 / Technical Delegates from across Canada for a combined session that also provided the existing Level 3 officials with a "TD Update" on recent rule and procedural changes from FIS.

Both sessions were supported by Level 4 and Level 5 officials, including CCC Executive Director Al Maddox, past CCC president Dave Rees, and XCWCS President Robert Hogg, as well as AWCA Committee Chair Ken Hewitt.

This is the first time that a Level 3 course has been conducted outside of the XC National Championships, and it provided a unique opportunity to move a large number of Alberta cross country officials "up the ladder" in terms of skills and technical knowledge.
