We are looking for a General Manager to join the Alpine Insurance Alberta World Cup Academy.  The GM is the individual charged with the responsibility to ensure the Academy continues to operate in a financially sustainable and financially successful manner.  In broad terms, the GM looks after the business side of the Academy while the Head Coach looks after the programmatic side of the Academy.  Together, they are the two positions who operate and sustain the Academy.  The Chair of the Academy Committee provides oversight and Board liaison.

The Academy has grown to be an established National Development Training Centre for developing elite cross country ski high performance athletes.  Nordiq Canada also assigns members of the NST to training centres and the Academy is expected to provide coaching and development support that is fully aligned with the NST program direction.

The General Manager is expected to exercise initiative and be proactive in all areas related to the business functions of the Academy.  The GM is expected to bring in any member of the AWCS that he/she believes is essential to achieving the Academy’s business goals.  In order to achieve that, the GM must have a visible profile with AWCS members and the broader xc ski community.

Leadership

      • Foster core team values and behaviours that are driven by safety and excellence.
      • Provide leadership in conjunction with the Chair and AIAWCA staff in the identification of the goals, philosophies and standards of the AIAWCA

Business and Administration

      • Lead the preparation and management of the annual budget, based on input from the Head Coach.
      • Lead the process of recruiting new sponsors and retaining existing sponsors. Develop and prepare materials related to all sponsorship efforts. Recruit and deploy the team of AWCS personnel to assist in sponsor retention and new sponsor recruitment.
      • Perform certain accounting and general administration duties (e.g. allocation of camp and event costs, invoicing of athletes, accounts receivable computations and collections, bank deposits, travel records,..)
      • Support athletes and the program  with fundraising opportunities (Strides & Glides event, online auction fundraiser).
      • Fulfillment of deliverables relating to sponsors, supporters.
      • Keep various communications current – Website, social media, newsletter.
      • Support coaches in organizing travel arrangements (e.g. accommodations) for team trips (camps and competitions).
      • Sourcing of summer and winter clothing for athletes.
      • Organizing team pictures and marketing materials for the Academy.
      • Provide a monthly report to the Chair, AIAWCS Committee so that he/she can inform the AWCS Board of all relevant developments.

Stakeholder Engagement

      • In collaboration with the Head Coach, provide reporting to Nordiq Canada as required by the partnership agreement.
      • Plan and execute fundraising activities that meet the financial goals of the budget.
      • Lead and delegate a communications strategy that meets the marketing and promotional requirements of the program.

The position is part-time and will be paid on an hourly basis and is expected to be based in the Bow Valley.
