Coaching Program

The tenets of coaching development are that the Alberta World Cup Academy will:

  • Provide programs that are unique in Canada, are education/experienced based, and that set new standards for coaching development.
  • Prepare coaches to be ready for entry to national teams and for international success.
  • Offer a coaching development program that is compatible the National Coaching Institute class schedule
While the class rooms of the National Coaching Institute provide the academic environment that is a necessary foundation for a coachÕs education, it is the real world experiences where a coach may hone their skills. The AWCA believes it is important to learn these skills in a supportive environment working side by side with a variety of experienced coaches, athletes and officials. Our goal is to ensure every candidate Òreally knows their jobÓ and is prepared for every opportunity and challenge in their career.

Officials Program

The tenets of coaching development are that the Alberta World Cup Academy will:

  • Work collaboratively with Cross Country Canada to prepare officials to organize and deliver cross country ski competitions at an international level of competence.
  • Provide ongoing support to officials by preparing and conducting seminars and refresher courses as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of new and effective teaching tools for officials.
  • Provide support for Technical Delegates.

The intent of the AWCA is not to duplicate what is already being done by Cross Country Canada and Cross Country Alberta, but rather to supplement their programs and develop resources to fill in gaps.

The AWCA believes it is important to learn skills in a supportive environment, working side by side with a variety of experienced officials coaches and athletes, at real world events. Our goal is to ensure every official Òreally knows their jobÓ and is prepared for every opportunity and challenge.

The focus for 2008-2009 competition season will be:

  • 1. Preparing and offering an Instructors Workshop (Fall, 2008)
  • 2. In conjunction with CCC host a TD Update seminar (Winter, 2008)
  • 3. In conjunction with CCC offer a Level 3 Officials course in Alberta
