CANMORE, AB – November 28, 2025 The Alberta World Cup Society, in partnership with Nordiq Canada and the International Ski and Snowsport Federation (FIS), will host the 2025 FIS Para Cross-Country Skiing World Cup at the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park.

This international event will welcome over 120 elite Para athletes from 19 countries, celebrating sport, inclusion, and excellence.
Becky Scott, Nordiq Canada CEO and retired Canadian Olympic cross-country skier says, The Alberta Para cross-country World Cup offers Canadians a rare chance to watch our country’s top athletes compete against the world. For Canada’s Para nordic athletes, this event is an important step on the road to the Paralympic Games, an opportunity to test the progress made over the summer and identify what’s needed to be at their best next winter. Competing at a home World Cup is incredibly special, and we are deeply grateful to the Alberta World Cup Society and the Canmore community for their commitment to Para sport and for bringing this event to life. We can’t wait to cheer on our athletes as they defend home snow and to see the community come together in support of Team Canada.

The event begins with an Opening Ceremony on December 3, 2025, at the Canmore Civic Centre, coinciding with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. Three days of competition will follow on December 4, 6, and 7, 2025.

We’re incredibly proud to support the Alberta World Cup Society to bring these world-class events to our community,” says Rachel Ludwig, Tourism Canmore Kananaskis CEO. “It’s a great time to welcome visitors here, strengthening our businesses, exciting residents, and showing off what makes Canmore and Kananaskis so special.”

The Opening Ceremony on December 3 will feature a special celebration of local cultural heritage. Following the ceremony, guests are invited to attend a Community Resource Fair at the Canmore Civic Centre from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The fair will connect attendees with local organizations supporting the disability community, showcase adaptive recreation opportunities, and foster networking in an inclusive environment.
The competition will feature world-class Para cross-country athletes, including several Paralympic and World Champions. Spectators can look forward to exciting sprint and distance races across multiple classifications, showcasing the skill, endurance, and determination of the world’s best Para cross-country skiers.

Several members of Canada’s Paralympic team live and train in Canmore, and this is an opportunity to cheer them on on home snow. From the established stars to a new generation of para skiers, Canada will be represented by some of the world’s best.
“This is our 4th para world cup.  Each time we’ve had a chance to celebrate athletic excellence and welcome teams from around the skiing world to our community,” says Norbert Meier, Events Chair of the Alberta World Cup Society. “We are always over-subscribed with volunteers for para world cups and that speaks volumes about how Canmore embraces this event.  I am personally looking forward to watching the races and getting a glimpse of how the athletes are preparing for the Paralympics in Italy in March 2026.

At the end of each competition day, spectators are encouraged to gather at the Tourism Canmore Kananaskis Plaza near the Biathlon Building for the awards ceremonies. This year’s awards will feature exquisite glass-blown designs by local artist Nicole Tremblay, created especially for the World Cup participants.
With the support of the Bow Valley Waste Collective and the Towards Zero Waste Event Program, the Alberta World Cup Society is partnering with the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley to minimize the environmental impact of the event and divert waste from the landfill.

Volunteers play a vital role in the success of the Alberta World Cup events. Each volunteer wears a hat signifying their years of service: Royal Blue for new volunteers, Red for returning volunteers, and Light Aqua for legendary volunteers who have contributed to more than ten World Cups. Spectators are encouraged to connect with these dedicated individuals and learn their stories.

Throughout late November and December, local schools and businesses will celebrate global inclusion through the Adopt-A-Nation program and attend the Para World Cup events, while persons with disabilities will enjoy inclusive “Try-it” snow programs at the Canmore Nordic Centre. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all sponsors and partners who make this event possible. On December 6, Spring Creek Resorts will host a Partner Appreciation Day, offering partners a special behind-the-scenes experience with athletes.
